General Details for Solar Farms Perimeter Security

Solar farm perimeter security delivers a high-assurance, multi-layered protection system designed to prevent theft, vandalism, sabotage, and unauthorized access to critical renewable energy infrastructure. It integrates robust boundary fencing or walls with anti-climb and anti-dig measures, along with fiber-optic–based Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS) that provide precise, real-time detection of cutting, climbing, tampering, and ground disturbance with extremely low false alarm rates. Combined with intelligent video surveillance, controlled entry points, and centralized command-and-control monitoring, the solution ensures continuous site visibility, rapid incident response, asset protection, and uninterrupted power generation while meeting utility and infrastructure security standards.

Securing the perimeter is the first and most critical layer of physical protection for solar farms, solar power plants, photovoltaic parks, and renewable energy installations. The FOL-101 Fence and Buried Perimeter Intrusion Detection System provides continuous, real-time monitoring of both perimeter fencing and underground boundaries using advanced fiber-optic sensing technology. The system is specifically designed to prevent unauthorized access, trespassing, theft of solar panels or cables, vandalism, sabotage, and covert intrusion attempts in large, open solar farm environments. It reliably detects fence climbing, cutting, pulling, lifting, tampering, as well as digging or ground disturbance near the boundary—before intruders can reach critical solar assets.

How the Fence and Buried Perimeter Security Works?

A fiber-optic sensing cable is installed on the perimeter fence and/or buried underground along the solar farm boundary. The perimeter is divided into Zone 1 to Zone 8, each covering up to 500 m range. Any physical disturbance on the fence or ground generates an instant alarm. The controller identifies the exact zone of intrusion. Alarms are transmitted to the central control room for immediate response.

Zone-Based Alarm Detection

  • Exact intrusion location displayed zone-wise
  • Multiple intrusions can be detected simultaneously across different zones
  • Ideal for large, open, and unmanned solar farms
  • Reduces response time and improves security efficiency
  • Suitable for all types of boundary walls and fencing

Key Advantages for Solar Farm Security

  • Early intrusion detection before perimeter breach
  • No false alarms with 24×7 highly reliable security
  • No electrical power required in the field
  • Immune to EMI, lightning, radiation, and extreme weather conditions
  • Ideal for remote locations with limited infrastructure
  • Completely silent and invisible security
  • Centralized monitoring from plant control room, security cabin, or remote monitoring facility

FR-201

Solar farms require multi-layered, highly reliable, and continuous perimeter security to prevent unauthorized access, theft of solar panels and cables, vandalism, sabotage, and covert intrusion attempts such as digging or boundary breaches. The FR-201 provides real-time monitoring of both perimeter fencing and buried boundaries using advanced fiber-optic sensing technology — making it ideal for large, open, and often unmanned solar installations. The system is engineered to detect, classify, and precisely locate intrusion attempts, including fence attacks, ground disturbance, digging, or tunneling — well before intruders can reach critical solar assets, enabling immediate and targeted response by security teams.

How the System Works?

A single-mode fiber-optic sensing cable is installed on the perimeter fence and/or buried underground along the solar farm boundary. The same sensing cable can protect fence and buried zones simultaneously. Any disturbance creates a signal that is analyzed by the FR-201 controller. The system generates a pinpoint location alarm within a few meters, and the exact intrusion point is displayed on the monitoring system, allowing security teams to respond quickly and accurately.

Fence Intrusion Detection

  • Climbing
  • Cutting
  • Pulling or lifting of the fence
  • Fence tampering

Buried Perimeter Detection

  • Digging
  • Tunneling
  • Ground disturbance near walls, foundations, or cable trenches
  • Covert intrusion attempts

Pinpoint Location Alarms

  • Intrusion location accuracy within a few meters
  • Supports multiple simultaneous intrusion events
  • Exact location helps security teams respond faster and smarter

Integration

  • Alarm data available via:
    • TCP/IP (XML, ASCII, Modbus)
    • Relay outputs
  • Can automatically trigger PTZ cameras, hooters, and flood lights

Key Advantages for Solar Farm Security

  • Early detection before breach
  • Alarms displayed on map with precise meter location and GPS coordinates
  • Extremely low nuisance alarms with 24×7 reliable security using AI pattern recognition
  • No electrical power required in the field
  • Immune to EMI, lightning, and harsh weather conditions
  • Cut-immune configuration — system remains operational even if cable is cut
  • Ideal for large, remote, and unmanned solar installations
  • Centralized monitoring from plant control room, security cabin, or remote monitoring center
  • Precise intrusion location can automatically trigger cameras
