General Details for Nuclear Power Plants Perimeter Security
Nuclear power plant perimeter security delivers an ultra-high-assurance, multi-layered protection system designed to prevent unauthorized access, sabotage, espionage, and hostile intrusion into critical national infrastructure. It integrates hardened perimeter walls or high-security fencing with advanced anti-climb, anti-cut, and anti-dig measures, along with fiber-optic–based Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS) that provide precise, real-time detection of cutting, climbing, tampering, and tunneling attempts with extremely low false alarm rates. Combined with intelligent video surveillance, fortified access control points, and centralized command-and-control monitoring, the solution ensures continuous situational awareness, rapid and coordinated response, regulatory compliance, and the highest level of protection for personnel, assets, and nuclear operations.
FOL-101
Securing Fence & Buried Perimeter for Nuclear Power Plants

Securing the perimeter is the first and most critical layer of physical protection for nuclear power plants and atomic energy facilities. The FOL-101 Fence and Buried Perimeter Intrusion Detection System provides continuous, real-time monitoring of both perimeter fences and underground boundaries using advanced fiber-optic sensing technology. The system is specifically designed to prevent unauthorized access, sabotage, and hostile intrusion attempts, including fence climbing, cutting, pulling, lifting, tampering, as well as digging and tunneling near the protected perimeter — before any security breach occurs. With high detection accuracy and extremely low nuisance alarms, FOL-101 ensures reliable protection for high-security and regulated nuclear environments.
How the Fence and Buried Perimeter Security Works?
A fiber-optic sensing cable is installed on the perimeter fence and/or buried underground along the nuclear facility boundary. The protected perimeter is divided into Zone 1 to Zone 8, each covering up to 500 m range. Any physical disturbance on the fence or ground generates an instant alarm. The controller accurately identifies the exact intrusion zone, and alarms are transmitted in real time to the central security control room for immediate response.
Zone-Based Alarm Detection
- Exact intrusion location displayed zone-wise
- Multiple intrusion events detected simultaneously across different zones
- Faster response time and improved operational efficiency
- Ideal for restricted areas, exclusion zones, and critical nuclear assets
Key Advantages for Nuclear Power Plant Security
- Early intrusion detection before perimeter compromise
- Ultra-low false alarms with 24×7 highly reliable security
- No electrical power required on fence or buried perimeter
- Immune to EMI, lightning, radiation-safe conditions, and harsh weather
- Suitable for long, complex, and high-risk nuclear perimeters
- Centralized monitoring from a secure nuclear command & control room
FR-201
Securing Fence and Buried Perimeter for Nuclear Power Plants

FR-201 is a point-locating Fiber Optic Intrusion Detection System designed to protect high-risk, mission-critical infrastructure such as nuclear power plants. Nuclear facilities require multi-layered, fail-safe perimeter security to prevent sabotage, unauthorized access, tunneling, and coordinated external intrusion attempts. The FR-201 provides continuous, real-time monitoring of both perimeter fencing and buried boundaries using advanced fiber-optic sensing technology. The system is engineered to detect, classify, and precisely locate intrusion attempts — including fence attacks, digging, or tunneling — well before a security breach occurs, enabling immediate response.
How the System Works?
A single-mode fiber-optic sensing cable is installed on the perimeter fence and/or buried underground along the nuclear power plant boundary. The same sensing cable can protect fence and buried zones simultaneously. Any disturbance creates a signal that is analyzed by the FR-201 controller. The system generates a pinpoint location alarm within a few meters, and the exact intrusion point is displayed on the monitoring system, allowing security teams to respond quickly and accurately to real threats.
